Obituary for Donald “Don” Douglas Williams

williams donald douglasDonald “Don” Douglas Williams, 95, from Hiwassee, Virginia, died December 24, 2022, at Commonwealth Senior Living in Fairlawn, Virginia.  Don was born in Wythe County, Virginia on February 3, 1927.  His parents were Alfred Earl Williams and Beulah Grubb Williams.

He had four sisters:  Edna Williams Kegley (deceased)), Audrey Williams Creger (deceased), Collette Williams Slusher, 98, and Fonda Williams Winfrey, 90.  Don had one brother, Bentley Braxton Williams (deceased).

Don married Dontha Webb Williams in Newbern, Virginia on August 16, 1952.  The couple was married for 70+ years.

Don was a graduate of Pulaski High School class of 1945.  He served in the Army Air Corps from June 1945 to February 1947.  He worked for C & P Telephone Company, later acquired by AT&T for 40+ years of service.  He served in the Dublin Lions Club and served as a past president for the organization.  He enjoyed woodworking, building structures and repairing machinery.

 

Don is survived by his spouse, Dontha Webb Williams of Hiwassee, Virginia.  He also is survived by his sons:  Kirk D. Williams (spouse-Mary Fitro Williams, deceased) of Lynchburg, Virginia, Myron L. Williams (spouse-Cheryl Peterson Williams) of Hiwassee, Virginia, and Reggie A. Williams (spouse-Shirley Collins Williams) of Newbern, Virginia.  Don had five grandchildren:  Joshua L. Williams (spouse-Hollyn Loftin Williams) of Newbern, Virginia, Lauren Allen Williams (spouse-Carla Porterfield Williams) of Pilot Mountain State Park, Michelle A, Williams of Newbern, Virginia, Jennifer D. Williams and Jeremy D. Williams (spouse Ashley Lourdes Williams of Lynchburg, Virginia, six dogs, too many cats, bunny and deceased rat, Tilley.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, beginning at 1:00 in the afternoon followed by at 2:00 Memorial Service officiated by Jeff Martin in the chapel of Norris Stevens Funeral Services. Interment will follow at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin with full miliary honors.
