Obituary for Douglas Arwood Altizer
Douglas Arwood Altizer, 83, passed away Wednesday, May 4, 2022 at his home in Fairlawn. He was a member of the Pulaski Church of Christ and was retired after 40 years with the Virginia State Police. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie and Nobie Altizer; and his sister, Carolyn Hines.
Doug adored his family, his wife of 62 years, Jean Altizer; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Scott Strickland of Salem; son, Woody Altizer of Radford; grandchildren, Mindi (Nic) Bodin, Chase Altizer, Cara Altizer, Lance Strickland, Neil Strickland, and Cassie (Jeff) Snell; great grandchildren, Harper Bodin and Everett Snell; and many other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, May 6, 2022 at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford.
Interment with full military honors will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.

Sir, thank you for your services to our country, state, and local VSP. I remember when the VSP was in the Thornspring area before the agency moved to Dublin. Jean, all the Novells pray for your comfort during this phase of your life.

he was dear friend father figure trough the last 33 years of my life. had it not been for him and ken phipps i dont know where my life would be good by for now my friend for now

Sorry to hear about Doug’s passing. I went to a family reunion at his house and knew his parents and sister. Thank you for your service with the Virginia State Police. I know you had a long and interesting position with them. May you rest in peace.
