Obituary for Ellen Covey Moore

Ellen Covey Moore, 81, originally of Pulaski County, died September 6, 2023, at home surrounded by her family at Warm Hearth Village.  She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Frank B. Moore, and two daughters and sons-in-law, Leslie and David Asher of St Marys, Georgia, and Nicole and John Long of Radford. Also surviving are three granddaughters, SSG. Sydney Wampler of Louisville, Kentucky, Hannah Long and Beth Long of Radford; one sister, Ruth Covey Withers of Lynchburg, Virginia, one sister-in-law, Jane Moore of San Antonio, Texas, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas W. and Vera H. Covey of Snowville; and two brothers, Albert W. and William D. Covey of Snowville.

Ellen was retired from Pulaski County Department of Social Servies, where she was Social Work Supervisor.  She was a 1964 graduate of Radford College. A member of Dublin United Methodist Church.  Ellen was active in the Dublin and Draper local units and on the district level in United Methodist Women.  She held numerous offices in her local unit, including that of Wytheville District UMW President and Holston Conference level UMW President.  When able, Ellen was active in other areas of her church and community.  She was an avid reader of mysteries and loved her many cats through the years.  Ellen and Frank enjoyed traveling, accomplishing their goal of visiting all 50 states.

A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held on Monday, September 11, 2023 at Dublin United Methodist Church, officiated by Rev. Don Shelor.  Visitation will be at 2 PM with the service starting at 3 PM.  Burial will take place on Friday, September 15, 2023 at 2 PM at Highland Memory Gardens in Dublin. In lieu of flowers, Ellen wished for donations to be made to Dublin United Methodist Church, P. O. Box 577, Dublin, VA 24084.  The family would like to thank the staff of both Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery and Good Samaritan Hospice for their care and support.
