Obituary for Ernest “Ernie” Blackwell Garter Jr.
Ernest “Ernie” Blackwell Garter, Jr., 69, of Pulaski, VA died Thursday night, July 1, ,2021 at his home. He was born in Pulaski on September 18, 1951 and was the son of the late Ernest Blackwell Garter, Sr. and Frances Nelson Elliotte Garter. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Beth” Lenn Wohlford Garter. He was a retired employee of New River Community College.
Mr. Garter will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Thinking of my Pulaski High School classmate this morning. All the times I stopped into Garter’s Grocery store after school, all the classes Ernie and I shared, all the times we classmates heard him play in his band, all the talent I know he possessed — these memories are keen. I hope he finds eternal peace.
