Obituary for Fred Hensley Roope

Fred Hensley Roope, age 94 of Pulaski, died Thursday evening, January 26, 2023 at Lewis Gale Hospital – Pulaski.  Fred was born in Salem, Virginia on March 17, 1928, and was the son of the late Bertie Hamblin Roope and the late John Campbell Roope.  He was a long-time auto mechanic at the former Pulaski Motor Company, and at the Pulaski County Bus Shop.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded by brothers, James Darnell Roope, Ralph E. Roope, Emory Roope, Guy Roope, Roy Roope, Carl Roope, and Ray Roope.  He is survived by his lovely wife of 67 years, Edith Virgie Banes Roope.  Three sons:  Clarence (Susan) Daniel Roope of Garden Grove, CA, Wade (Melissa) Hensley Roope of Pulaski, and Paul (Bonnie) Anthony Roope of Christiansburg:  his daughter; Shelby Jean Roope of Pulaski:  Fred is proudly the grandfather of nine grandchildren, and the great-grandfather of six great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral service will be held Tuesday, January 31, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Goshen Cemetery on Spur Branch Road in Bland County, with Pastor Frank Peters officiating.  The family will receive friends on Monday evening at Seagle Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Flowers are appreciated, but those who wish, may make memorials to the Goshen Cemetery Association of Walkers Little Creek Fund 1490 Spur Branch Road Dublin, Va. 24084.
