Obituary for Henry Robert “Hank” McNeil, Jr.

Hank Mcneil

Henry Robert “Hank” McNeil, Jr., age 80 of Pulaski passed away Tuesday morning May 9, 2023 at home, surrounded by some of his adoring family. He was a gentleman with a pinch of scoundrel, a scholar who never got a college degree, and an honest man with a knack for bluffing. He was a terrible singer and an even worse dancer, but he did not hesitate to take part in both activities.  He was quick to give his friends “the business,” but even quicker to lend support if a need arose. He loved NASCAR, the Cleveland Browns, country music and any activity in which a grandkid of his participated. He was a good husband, a great father and the best grandpa in recorded history.

Born October 7, 1942 in Cleveland, Ohio he was the son of the late Henry Robert McNeil, Sr. & Rita Marie Busher McNeil. He worked for White Motors, now Volvo Trucks North America, for 45 years, and retired from the United States Army and retired from the Virginia Army National Guard. More recently, he was involved in the Virginia Defense Force, the American Legion, AMVETS, the Moose Club, the Lion’s Club and many other service-based organizations. Though the loss of this singular fellow will be felt throughout his community, his boisterous laughter will live on in the heart of all that knew him.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 44 years, Lynne Dawn Carver McNeil and his brother, Timothy McNeil.

Hank is survived by his children – Henry Robert “Scotty” & Tarabeth McNeil – Utah, Megan Mary & Chris Arnold – Pulaski, Theresa Anne McNeil – Pulaski, Mary Regina & Rob Baron – Radford, Rita Marie McNeil and fiancé Brian Fields II – Patrick County, Virginia, Tracy Ann Anello & Marcel Andreas Pitz – Wesley Chapel, Florida.
