Obituary for Jay Covington Vest

Jay Covington Vest, 76, of Dublin, VA, went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, October 1, 2019. He was born May 21, 1943 at White Gate, VA, the son of the late Luther Powell & Lucille Underwood Vest.

He was a big fan of the Pulaski County Cougars football team and was a member of the “Touchdown Club.” He was Chief of Police for the Town of Dublin for many years and enjoyed helping with the Town of Dublin Bicycle Drive.  He was a NASCAR fan and his favorite driver was Dale Earnhardt. Most of all, Jay loved his children and opened his heart and home to their friends and neighbors.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by the love of his life, his wife of 45 years, Rosie Alice Vest, a son, Luther Eugene Vest, a brother, Eugene Vest, and two sisters, Nellie Kelly and Shelby Johnston.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons & daughter-in-law, Greg Vest and Scott & Chrissi Vest; his daughters & sons-in-law, Anna & Greg Tickle and Lora & Billy Richardson; his grandchildren, Jayke Knight, Kelsea Knight, Leah & Marcos Martinez, Tori Vest, Morgan Vest, Jordan Tickle and Tye Tickle; and one sister & brother-in-law, Shirley & Chuck Jarrell.

Memorial services will be held Thursday, October 3, 2019 at 7:00 P.M. at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Ben Tickle officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5:00 P.M. until service time, 7:00 P.M. Per his wishes, he has been cremated.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made in Jay’s honor to PCHS Football, ATTN: Jamie Graham, 5414 Cougar Trail Rd., Dublin, VA 24084.
