Obituary for Joyce Ann Vires Altizer

Joyce Ann Vires Altizer, age 65 of Dublin, Virginia passed away Sunday, February 12, 2023 after a battle with illness at Pulaski Health & Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Martinsville, Virginia June 27, 1957 to the late William Gilmer and Judith Lovern Vires. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 45 years, Ellis Reed Altizer and her younger brother, William Gilmer Vires, Jr.

Joyce spent her life caring for others as a CNA for 28 years until her health took a downward turn.

She is survived by her children, Tina Maria Cox (Mike Blevins), Christopher Reed Altizer and Amanda Gail Altizer; grandchildren, Kristaen Nicole (Josh) Cooper, Tyler Cox (Maddy Hoover), Ayden Duncan, Dustin Colby Hooper, Darian (CJ) Saunders, Codie Blevins and Adam Newman; great grandchildren, Luna Cooper, Aubrey Huddle, A.J. Huddle, Emma Saunders, Coltin Saunders and Emersyn Cox on the way.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM – Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at the Bower Funeral Home-Chapel, Pulaski. Interment will follow at the Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin.

The family will receive friends one hour before service time Wednesday at the Funeral Home.
