Obituary for Kenneth Larue Metz

Kenneth Larue Metz, of Denton, NC, age 93, began his life in Jackson Center, Ohio, and departed this world to be with The LORD, on January 30, 2021.

Ken retired from the U.S. Navy, after serving 20 years.  He also retired from U.S. Naval Security Group Headquarters Command in Washington, D.C. after fourteen years.  He was Director for Information Processing for that organization.

Kenneth is survived by his wife, Peggy Phibbs Metz of Denton, NC; a special stepson, Michael E. Patterson of Denton, NC; seven delightful grandchildren, Amber M. Gallagher of N.J.; Desiree M. Hammel of NJ; Kolter L. Metz of NJ; Aubrey M. Parish of WV; Canaan J. Metz of MD; Bridger S. Metz of NJ; and Serenity Grace Metz of WV; also, eight precious great-grandchildren, all of NJ and WV.  He is also survived by special in-laws, Ronald & Earleen Vaughan of NC, and Bill Phibbs of VA, and many wonderful nieces and nephews in Ohio, South Carolina, Virginia, Texas, and Arkansas.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Jean Metz;  by his parents, Christian Henry and Mary Metz; his son, Steven W. Metz; his son, Douglas E. Metz; grandson, Zion Levi Metz; a special daughter-in-law, Linda Thompson; his sister Wilma Weeks; his brothers Alfred Metz; Roger Metz; Marvin Metz; and Lester Metz.

Kenneth was a member of several churches in the relocations required by careers and caring for family.  Being active in church was always meaningful and the highlight of his days.  The last church he was able to attend before illness made it impossible, was Valley Harvest Ministries in Dublin, VA.  He loved keeping a nice lawn, woodworking, singing hymns in church choirs and quartets, and public speaking.

A private interment will take place at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin.  A memorial graveside service will be announced at a later date at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery with full Navy Honors.  Online condolences may be sent to the family by visiting www.seaglefuneralhome.com  Arrangements by Seagle Funeral Home, Pulaski.
