Obituary for Kenneth Lewis “Dook” Stephens
Kenneth Lewis “Dook” Stephens, 79, of Pulaski, VA., passed away peacefully in his home on December 6, 2022. He was born June 24, 1943 in Poplar Hill, VA., to the late Woodrow Vance Stephens and Georgia Lillian Sadler Stephens. He was also preceded in death by his wife Lois Bratton Stephens.
Kenneth grew up in the Poplar Hill community and graduated from Pearisburg High School Class of 1961. He faithfully attended Pulaski Pentecostal Church. He served his country for 2 years in the Army. He had early careers as a police officer for the Town of Dublin, an orderly at Pulaski Hospital, a taxi driver, and a machine operator for McKinney Drilling before landing a position with Norfolk Southern Railroad. After retirement, he enjoyed spending time over in the ‘country’ visiting the Amish, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson, and visiting family and friends. He is known for being a hustler in the Flea Market Circuit all over Southwest Virginia.
Kenneth is survived by his daughters Melissa Van Horn, Tina Stephens Turpin and husband Ronnie, Son Terry Stephens, sisters Connie Kersey and husband Frank, Linda Flinchum and husband JR, grandchildren Kayla, Kim and Ricky, numerous great grandchildren, special friend Imogene Burton and many nephews, nieces and friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 8, 2022 at 3:00 P.M.at A. Vest & Sons Funeral Home Chapel, White Gate, with Pastor Jeff Willhoite officiating. Kenneth will be laid to rest in the Stinson Cemetery in White Gate, VA following the funeral service. Kenneth’s family will receive friends at teh funeral home from 1:00 P.M. until servicetime, 3:00 P.M.
