Obituary for Paul Douglas Manuel

Paul Douglas Manuel, age 76, of Dublin, Va., went home to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 8, 2022.

Doug is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Helen Manuel, his sister and brother-in-law, Dennis and Joyce Rash, one son, Scott Clay Jones, and one brother-in-law, David Morehead.

Doug is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Connie; his children, son, Jeffrey Ray Manuel of Dublin, daughter, Lori Ann Hale of Pulaski, daughter, Kimberly Ann Draper of Pulaski, son, John Douglas Manuel and wife Rose of Dublin, and daughter, Madison Lynn Manuel of the home; sisters, Jeannie (Tommy) Dalton of Ivanhoe, Mary (Jay) Cochran of Barren Springs, and Betty Morehead of Max Meadows; and brother, Tommy (Nancy) Manuel of Tennessee.

Doug was also the doting grandfather of Harley Manuel of Beckley W.Va., Christopher McGlothlin of Pulaski, Va., Amanda Draper of Roanoke, Va., Meghan Borntrager of Lincoln, Ala., Josh Knott of Christiansburg, Va., Lauren Jones of Grahams Forge, Va., Kearsten Jones of Grahams Forge but currently serving in the United States Army in Korea, and Skye, Quin, and Ella Manuel, all of Dublin, Va. Special nieces and God’s caregivers to him Shannon O’Dell and Erin Byrd and their little helpers Addison O’Dell and Zachary Byrd and several great grandchildren who he loved very much. Also, his “adopted granddaughter” who had a very special place in his heart, Abby East, and his furry companion, Gracie.

Doug was a proud member of the United States Air Force and a Vietnam Veteran who was awarded the Purple Heart for his service. He was also a member of the New River Rescue Squad many years ago. And he coached little league, t-ball, baseball, football and soccer for over 100 rec teams for more than 20 years for the Pulaski Recreation Department where all the kids became like family and were always welcomed into his home. Doug attended the Fairlawn Church of God with Connie for several years.

Connie and the family would like to thank Intrepid Hospice of Radford’s home health and nursing staff for the care and love they have shown over the last one and a half years, the VA Medical Center/caregiver support staff, as well as Pastor Marcus Harrison and the church family for all the love and support shown to the family. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Children’s Ministry of Fairlawn Church of God.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2022 at the Fairlawn Church of God. Funeral services will begin at 1 p.m. with Rev. Marcus Harrison officiating. Interment with full military honors will follow in the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery in Dublin.
