Obituary for Peggy Ann Phibbs Metz

Peggy Ann Phibbs Metz, age 82 of Denton, NC, departed this world to be with our Lord, at 6:00 a.m., on September 1, 2023.

After graduating from Pulaski High School, Peggy attended Bridgewater College for one year, as well as Concord College for three years.  She spent her career in Finance and Banking until her retirement.  Peggy was a long-time member of the Valley Harvest Ministries in Dublin, Virginia, and loved working tirelessly in the ministries and always serving the Lord in all she did.  She also loved singing hymns and praising the Lord singing in the choir.

Peggy is preceded in death by her husband: Kenneth Larue Metz: her mother and father, Arby and Katherine Phibbs from Pulaski, VA:  a sister, Jean Phibbs Burgwald from Nokesville, VA, and brother-in-law, Ronald S. Vaughan.

She is survived by her beloved son:  Michael E. Patterson of Denton, NC:  her brother, William (Bill) M. Phibbs of Arkansas, her sister, Earleen Phibbs Vaughan of Denton, NC, and a brother-in-law, Bill Burgwald of FL, and a special grandson, Canaan J. and Madison Metz of MD.  Nieces and nephews, Christina Phibbs and Bob Carpenter of VA, Terry and Phil Whitmer of VA, Tammy and Mike Holcomb of Arkansas, Ted and Crystal Burgwald of FL, and Bryan and Amy Vaughan of FL, and special care givers, Michael and Betty Herzberg of Denton, NC.  Peggy is also survived by and loved by many great-nieces and great-nephews and many, many cousins.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home. Visiting will be held on Wednesday, September 13, 2023, at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.  Interment will follow at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.  Peggy’s husband Kenneth, retired from the United States Navy, and died during the Covid pandemic, and was buried at the Veterans Cemetery with no service or military honors.  He will be given full military honors at the cemetery on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. preceding Peggy’s committal service.
