Obituary for Robert “Bob” Porto

Robert “Bob” Porto, age 64, passed away April 12, 2022, after a brave fight with esophageal cancer. He was born February 3, 1958, in Frankfurt, Germany, the first child of Emilio and Waltraut Harms Porto. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, qualifying as an expert marksman and serving in various other capacities at bases around the country. He worked many years as a draftsman, electronics technician, and in quality control. At the time of his illness, Bob was employed by Volvo Trucks, Inc.

He was preceded in death by his father and stepmother, Emilio and Irene Coyle Porto, and his mother, Waltraut Harms Hart.

Bob is survived by his children, Robert J. Porto, Jr, and Christina M. Porto, both of Cloverdale, California, two granddaughters, Alizabeth Porto and Liliana Porto, and one great granddaughter, Marceline Lewers. Also survived by his devoted side kick and caregiver, Laura Breeding McMahon, and five siblings; Jane Kemp and husband Worthington, of Welcome, Maryland; Edward Porto and wife, Natalie, of Fredericksburg, Va; Joseph Porto and wife, Nichelle, of Sterling, Va; Irene Johnson and husband, Nathan, of Centerton, Arkansas; Katharine Jackson, and husband, Nicholas, of Dumfries, Va; and many nieces and nephews.

Bob was a fun-loving guy who loved life, worked hard, and served his country proudly.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 2:00 PM, April 19, 2022 in the Bower Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Robbie Vance officiating. Interment will follow at the Southwest Virginia Veterans Cemetery, Dublin, Virginia.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home.

Bower Funeral Home, Pulaski is handling services for the family.
