Obituary for Rose Jewell McCoy Shelor

Rose Jewell McCoy Shelor, of Dublin, Virginia, was born January 1, 1940 and passed to her rest on Wednesday, December 1, 2021. She was the daughter of the late Harvey Garnet and Annie Pulchney McCoy of Parrott and was also predeceased by her husband, Samuel Thomas Shelor, her son, Samuel Thomas Shelor, Jr., her sister Julia Hodge, brother Pete McCoy, and grandson Joey Dickerson.

She grew up in the New River Valley, but moved to Baltimore when she married Tom Shelor in 1955. In Maryland, they raised five children, and Rose worked in the meat department of several grocery stores. She loved watching Hallmark movies, collecting cookbooks, and shopping at yard sales and thrift stores. She had an artistic streak and took up various crafts over the years, like crochet and plastic canvas needlepoint, sharing her creations with family and friends generously. She loved music, birdwatching, flowers, and Christmas decorations. She was a Bible student, and a believer in the Seventh-day Adventist message since 1971. She and her husband were very active bowling and golfing together for many years. They moved back into the area in 2010, settling in Dublin.

Rose is survived by four daughters: Rose (Jerry) Bowen of Floyd, Jackie Shelor of Florida, Samantha (Slim) Quesenberry of Dublin, and Patty Shelor of Dublin.

Grandchildren: Christopher Dickerson, Jeremy (Renee) Bowen, Jonathan Bowen, Angelina (Jeremy) Yuvanavattana, Joshua (Sarah) Bowen, Sarah Keen, Timothy (Diana) Bowen, Abigail (Luke) Thomas, Elijah (Elza) Bowen, and Simeon Bowen, Kurt Dickerson, Rebecca Shears, John and Jacob Scott

Great-grandchildren: Katelyn and Briana Bowen, Haley, Thai, Natasha, Jasmine, Ryan, Cailey, and Mirrelise Yuvanavattana, Brandon and Alexis Dickerson, Fiona and Bronn Keen, Dahlia Schoof, Lily and Ricky Emery, Michael and Desirae Dickerson, Gabriel Bowen, Eva Bowen, Raven Thomas
