Obituary for Walter Ryan “Wally” Brockmeyer
Walter Ryan Brockmeyer, known affectionately as Wally, 67, of Shiloh, Virginia, passed away at his home on November 2nd, 2018 of natural causes. His wife and lifelong love, Carol, along with his parents, Milton and Elva, preceded him in death and rejoiced with the rest of heaven when Wally joined them.
Wally was born in Pulaski, Virginia on December 15, 1951 to Milton and Elva Ryan Brockmeyer. He was a graduate of Pulaski High School class of 1970. He served in the United States Navy as an E5, petty officer, 1st class. After serving his country, Wally was employed by The Appalachian Power Company. Wally married his sweetheart, Carol Hall, and they had two sons, Ryan and Adam.
To know Wally was to love him. He had a kind word and smile for everyone he encountered. He was a friend to all and treated everyone like a someone. Wally loved riding motorcycles, and enjoyed riding with his late father, sons, grandchildren, and friends. He also enjoyed weight lifting. He was funny, charming, witty, and kind. He loved fiercely and had a servant’s heart that carried an abundance of love and forgiveness. His life’s legacy is the kindness and love he shared with everyone.
God and family were the most important aspects of Wally’s life. He was a proud and lifelong member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Pulaski. He was the best crucifer and acolyte, and proud bass in the choir.
Left behind to cherish his memory and legacy are his beloved sons and daughters-in-law and grandchildren: Ryan and Sarah of Fairlawn and their daughters Selah and Josie, and Adam and Jessie of Pulaski and their daughter, Maggie, and sons, Grayson and Brigham.
Also cherishing his memory are his sisters and brother-in-law, Dianne Brockmeyer of Richmond, VA, and Carolyn and Dennis Willaman of Holland, MI. His brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Walter (Buddy) Felts and Sheila, and sister-in-law, Joy Cooley, all of Shiloh, VA. His nephews, Lee and Tyler Felts, Chase Cooley, and nieces Ashley Gearheart, and Elizabeth Willaman. His cousins, Susan and Jeff Bain, Tommy and Sue Stone, Martha Lynn Wilson, Myron and Diane Aust, and Milton and Brenda Aust.
Wally spent most of his time being a ray of sunshine for everyone he came in contact with, and lived for his family, especially his beloved grandchildren. His presence and infectious smile will be missed by everyone in the community, especially his family. He was a man amongst men, a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and the finest, kindest man in all the land.
Funeral services will held Wednesday Nov. 7th at 11am from the Trinity Lutheran Church, Pulaski with Pastor Terrie Sternberg officiating. Burial will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery. The Family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5-8pm at Trinity Lutheran Church. In lieu of flowers the Family requests memorials in Wally’s name be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church, 2 5th St. NW Pulaski, VA 24301

Dear Brockmeyer Family: My heart grieves with you this week as you say goodbye to Wally. He was so very special to all of us that knew him. During high school, regardless of how your day was going, you could depend on your day getting better when you saw Wally coming down the hall. Always laughing, always kind, always friendly. And, the twinkle in his eyes was everlasting.
In 2005, I spent 6 months (my Mother’s last 6 months) in Wytheville at Edgemont Nursing Home with my Mom. Wally would bring his Dad up to visit on a regular basis. Oh, how he brightened up the room. Oh, how it pleased my Mother to be remembered. Oh, that twinkle. I thanked him now and I will always give thanks for his kindness.
Your Dad was a truly good, Christian, loving, giving man. Thank you all for sharing him with the world. I will continuing praying for your family. I know that Wally, Carol and his parents are all enjoying the reunion. May God Bless You All.

My sincerest condolences goes out to this family. As the Administrator at Pulaski Health and Rehabilitation Center I cannot imagine our days without a visit from Wally. He brought a smile to all and ALWAYS thanked the Staff for all the care and love he saw them give. He checked on not just the patients but those there providing the care. He just knew what to say or what look you needed to make it a better day. I will miss him very much. I know God said ” Well done my good and faithful servant, well done.” Thank you for being Wally. Prayers for you all. See you again someday my
friend. God bless .

To the Brockmeyer family,
We were so sorry to hear of Wally’s passing. The world has certainly lost a most wonderful ray of sunshine. Our Mother, Mary Sue Hinson, worked for Dr. Brockmeyer for years. Wally was so kind to her. She loved him dearly, as did we all. We will all miss him.

I served in the Navy with Wally on the USS America CV66. He and I have been friends ever since. I’ll miss talking with him. I was shocked to learn of his passing. I tried calling him and the number was changed and now I know why. We’ll miss you Wally, you were a true friend.
