Willie Jean Brown Covey, age 95 of Snowville, died peacefully Thursday evening April 13, 2023, at Commonwealth Senior Living in Hillsville.  She was born July 1,1927 in Carroll County, and was the daughter of the late Mary Pierce Mitchell Brown and Colonel Taylor (CT) Brown.  She retired from Pulaski County School System as Secretary of Snowville Elementary School with 21 years of service.  She was a member of the Snowville Baptist Church, and Past Matron of the former Pulaski Chapter 113, Order of the Eastern Star.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Melvin Glenn Covey, Sr, who went home to be with the Lord May 3, 2008.  Five half-brothers and sisters-in-law, Herman and Blanche Brown, Odell and Nora Brown, Glenn and Mary A. Brown, J.P. and Bertha Brown, Clarence and Minnie Brown, two half-sisters and brothers-in-law; Lala Brown Marshall and James Marshall, Anna Mae Brown Givens and Rex Givens, and a brother-in-law, Preston Price.  Also, two half-sisters and one brother died at birth.  Also predeceased are the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Velma Covey Thacker and husband James Thacker, Madeline Covey Woolwine and husband Albert Woolwine, Rudolph Covey and wife Eunice Luckado Covey, and Curtis Covey.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law,  M.G. Covey, Jr. and Joyce Warner Covey of Pulaski, and Terry D. Covey and Tammy Davidson Covey of Ferrum, a sister Mary Brown Price of Hillsville,  three grandchildren and spouses, Drew Covey and Carrie Goforth Covey of Fishersville, Cindy Covey Cook and Jeremiah Cook of Chattanooga, TN, Amy Covey Howland and Josh Howland of Stokesdale, NC,  five great-grandchildren; Pippa & Sully Howland, Hudson and Nora Cook, and Wyatt Covey, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, April 16, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Seagle Funeral Home the Rev. Neil Wood officiating.  Interment will follow in the Hall Cemetery in Snowville.  The family will receive friends on Sunday at the funeral home from 1:30 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
