Obituary for Windel Keith “Buster” Cox

Windel Keith “Buster” Cox, age 82 of Snowville passed away Monday, July 11, 2022 at home surrounded by his family. Born December 1, 1939 in Christiansburg, Virginia he was the son of the late Willie Howard Cox & Louise Graham Cox. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Dauwen and brothers Ray Cox, Mac Cox, Gerry Cox and Victor Cox.

Windel was a member of the Snowville Baptist Church. He loved his large family and was viewed by many as a patriarch of the family, hosting Cox reunions in Snowville and at the farm where he lived for the last 40 years. He touched the lives of several nephews and cousins whom he welcomed into his home to live for extended periods of time and helped teach them important Christian principles of life.

Windel was very talented and enjoyed playing bluegrass and old-time music with his brothers and son Brian, and he coordinated Thursday night sessions at the Snowville Ruritan club for many years.

Windel loved living on the farm and spent many hours tending to his herd of black angus cattle.  He was known in the area for breeding top-quality calves.

He was a highly skilled carpenter and contractor and built several houses and other structures which remain as a legacy all over the Snowville region.

Windel was a friend to everyone he met and was generous with his time and skills to help people who were in need.

He is survived by his

Children – Sandy Cox Stevens – Bedford, Brian Cox – Radford

Grandchildren – Tosha Deanne Shingleton, Trista Leenette Stevens, Bailey Alana Nelson, Rileigh LaRea Cox, Brockton Keith Cox

Great Grandchildren – Remington, James Gaitling, Case, Paislee, Weston, Gavin

Close Friend – Dr. John Casali – Christiansburg

Brother – Gordon Cox – NC

Sister – Patricia Garrett – VA Beach

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM – Saturday, July 16, 2022 at the Bower Funeral Home-Chapel, Pulaski with Pastor Tony Hart officiating. Interment will follow at the Page Cemetery (Snowville).

The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM – Friday evening at the Funeral Home.
