PC Golf’s Rackaway Takes Medalist Honors at Draper Valley

cougars headPC junior Will Rackaway won medalist honors in a loaded River Ridge District field Monday at Draper Valley Golf Club. Rackaway fired a 1-under-par 71 to capture first place in the second round of district competition.

Evan Singleton overcame two early double bogeys to steady the ship and card a solid 76. Senior Boone Blevins shot an 82, while sophomore Ethan Clark also posted an 82 to round out PC’s scoring.

Coach Mark Hanks was proud of his team’s effort.

“Really proud of Will. There are a lot of college-level players in our district, so to go out there and win medalist honors is quite an accomplishment. I continually tell him and Evan that they are as good as anyone around, and they both have started the season out proving it. That was Ethan’s first varsity match, so a real solid effort from that sixth spot in our lineup.”

Hanks said the team’s expectations remain high despite finishing fifth.

“Overall, our guys thought this was a match they should have won, and I’m glad they have those expectations. Hopefully, it will fuel the flames a little, and they will put in that little extra time that it will take to reach our goals.”

Blacksburg won the team competition with a 299, followed by Hidden Valley at 302, Salem at 303, Cave Spring at 307, Pulaski County at 311, Patrick Henry at 313 and Christiansburg at 321.

The Cougars will play Auburn Hills on Monday in the third leg of the district competition.
