The Pulaski County boys basketball team saw its record fall to 6-6 after suffering a 62-54 loss at Blacksburg Tuesday evening. The Bruins are now 8-2 on the season.
The Cougars never really lost contact in the game, but had trouble narrowing the margin. It was 27-24 Bruins at the half, but the eight-point final margin actually came in the third quarter and Blacksburg led 41-33 heading into the fourth quarter when the two teams staged a shootout with both putting 21 markers on the board for the final, 62-54 score.
Hayden Gray led the Cougar effort with a game high 22 points, and Luke Russell scored a season high of 12. Gray hit five-3-point shots and Russell three.
But Pulaski Co. had trouble dealing with the inside presence of Brock Vice who scored a team high 19 points for Blacksburg, but also pulled down 10 rebounds and blocked four Cougar shots. Vice got plenty of help from Brian Mitchell with 16 points and Marley Spennachio-Parker with 11.
The Cougars will play at home Friday against undefeated Cave Spring.
