Probation reduced after appeal in child’s septic tank death

PULASKI, Va. (AP) — The Virginia woman whose felony child abuse conviction in her 5-year-old son’s septic tank drowning death was reversed has had five years of probation trimmed from her sentence.
The Roanoke Times reports an amended sentence filed Nov. 20 marks the end of the case of the death of Noah Thomas, who was found dead in the tank in 2015. His mother, 34-year-old Ashley White, had been convicted of three felonies in 2016, including two counts of child abuse and neglect for leaving Noah and his sister home alone on a separate occasion and one charge related to Noah’s death.
White appealed that last charge, and she was cleared of causing Noah’s death in September 2017.
Having already served her nearly two-year sentence, White’s sentence was amended to 10 years’ probation.
