Coach Chad Graham’s Comments
Tonight was “Senior night” for several sports, including Varsity Boys Tennis. In an unusual coincidence, Blacksburg’s #1 Singles player was running late due to an AP test, so we played games 2-5 first on our four courts. This allowed me to line up and announce our only senior, Xander Pratt, before the rest of the team. To honor his commitment and effort, he received a new and unique “Once a Cougar Always a Cougar” coin and played on Court #1. Unfortunately, Xander was bested by Blacksburg’s #2 tonight. Honestly, their #3 (who played Camden at #1 due to missing players) could beat the #1 from any of the other teams that we have faced this year, except for Christiansburg and Hidden Valley. As for the rest of the tennis match, everyone tried hard but Blacksburg was too much as usual. Luckily, we were able to pick up one more win than our last meeting against Blacksburg when Zach Gallimore dominated his #6 singles match 6-4 6-0. Eli Duke must also be mentioned for winning four tough games in his #5 singles match.
