The Pulaski County Democratic Committee will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, at the Pulaski County Courthouse, 45 Third St. NW, Pulaski. The meeting will be in the General District Court Room.
At the February meeting, the committee voted that Democratic party candidates for local elections will be determined by an assembled caucus, as has been the practice for many years.
A number of local seats will be up during the November 5, 2019 contest:
Sheriff (Mike Worrell [D] incumbent), Commonwealth’s Attorney (Mike Fleenor [D] incumbent), Treasurer (Melinda Worrell [D] incumbent), and Commissioner of Revenue (Donna Gray [D] Incumbent). All five members of the Board of Supervisors will be up (Robinson, Massie, Cloyd, Draper, Ingles). So far, Fredrick (Fritz) Streff, director of Institutional Effectiveness and Research at New River Community College, is running for Pulaski County Supervisor representing the Draper District.
In order to select candidates for the above positions, the committee will hold an assembled caucus on May 2 at 7 p.m. in the Pulaski County Circuit Court Room. To be considered for nomination, candidates MUST notify the party chair no later than midnight on April 18. Candidacy forms will be made available at a later time, but please contact Suzanne Bowen, chair of the Pulaski Democratic Party, at (540) 980-4664 or email@example.com if you are interested in running for one of the above positions.
All five members of the School Board (Robinson, Massie, Cloyd, Draper, Ingles) are up for election. Since these seats are non-partisan, candidates are not nominated by the committee but must seek signatures for their candidacy.
County and town citizens interested in participating in the local Democratic Party and participating during this important election year are welcome at the March 6 meeting.
