Pulaski County Junior Carmen Ferguson Qualifies for Girls State Golf Tournament
ABINGDON, Va. — Pulaski County High School junior Carmen Ferguson has qualified for the girls state golf tournament after finishing second at Tuesday’s qualifying event at Glenrochie Country Club in Abingdon.
According to Coach Hanks, Ferguson was surprised by the news that she had qualified, even telling the official scorer he had to be joking.
“I kept telling her that the greens were so fast and the pins were in some ridiculous spots,” Hanks said. “All the other girls had to putt on those same greens, and she was hitting the ball pretty well.”
Hanks said Ferguson’s qualification is a rewarding milestone after years of hard work and dedication to the sport.
“I am happy for her because she has really put the time in over the last couple of years,” Hanks said. “She plays in a bunch of tournaments year-round, and it’s good to see her work come to fruition.”
Ferguson will travel to Harrisonburg on Monday to compete at Heritage Oaks Golf Course in the state tournament.
Congratulations to Carmen on this outstanding accomplishment! Pulaski County is proud to see her hard work pay off as she prepares to compete at the state level.
