Pulaski County Schools to be closed Thursday and Friday
In response to a state of emergency being called for Hurricane Florence, Pulaski County Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, September 13, 2018 and Friday, September 14, 2018.
Thursday will be an Employee Code 1 with all eleven and twelve month employees reporting for regular work-day hours. Friday will be an Employee Code 0 with no employees reporting.
We do not currently know the exact path that the storm will take but every scenario has our region receiving from 6-30 inches of rainfall and dangerous winds, so flooding and power outages are expected to occur.
Ready.gov provides valuable information for how to react during a flood. Please take a few minutes to review their suggestions for how to prepare, survive, and be safe after flooding occurs. Also, the Virginia Department of Emergency Management and local emergency management officials are recommending that if possible, families prepare themselves with enough food, water, and medications to last for one week as the storm has the potential to isolate certain areas.
Pulaski County Public Schools operations personnel will assess the situation over the weekend to determine whether or not bus routes are clear and schools will be able to re-open on Monday, September 17, 2018. Our goal will be to release an official statement sometime during the afternoon hours on Sunday, September 16, 2018.
Please take all precautions necessary for yourself and your family as we have been advised to approach our preparations with the understanding that it may take months for some areas to recover from the impact of this storm. Therefore, we are planning for a worst case scenario while hoping for the best.
