Pulaski falls in East Division final, 5-4 in 17 innings
Burlington advances to the Appalachian League Championship Series after topping Pulaski, 5-4 in 17 innings Sunday night in Pulaski.
The Royals will go on to play the Johnson City Cardinals, winner of the league’s West Division. Johnson City beat Bristol 7-5 Sunday to take that series 2-1.
Pulaski led Sunday in the final game of the East Division series 4-0 until the sixth when Burlington finally got on the board with one run.
Burlington tied the game at 4-4 scoring three runs in their half of the eighth inning.
From that point on it was a pitchers’ duel and defensive struggle. Both teams had chances with runners in scoring position, but couldn’t get a hit to score a run until Burlington did in the top of the 17th.
Pulaski went down in order in the bottom of the 17th to end their season.
The game took 5 hours, 19 minutes to complete.
