Pulaski falls to Danville, but River Turtles’ magic number is 2

The Pulaski River Turtles fall to the Danville Otterbots in a 12-2 loss Monday night. Pulaski now falls to 30-20 on the season, but still stands atop the Eastern division. Danville improves to 27-23 and is still firmly in the race for the Championship game.

A combination of hot bats and strong pitching for Danville would be the story of the night. All twelve of Danville’s runs would come in the first half of the game. Scoring two in the 1st, five in the 2nd, one in the 3rd, and four for in the 4th.

In the seventh, a two-run home run to right-center field by John Bay would put up the only runs on the board for Pulaski and make it 12-2.

The win went to Chad Coles, as he went six innings, allowing three hits, no runs, walked three, and struck out four. The loss went to Brandon Gielow, as he went 1 1/3 innings, allowed two hits, five earned runs, walked three, and struck out two.

The Turtle of the Game went to John Bay as he went 1-4, with that one hit being that two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh.

In the East, the top spot is still up for grabs for four of the five teams. A Princeton loss allows Pulaski to keep a solid lead in the playoff race. Pulaski now only needs two wins to clinch the Eastern Division.

With their win tonight, Greeneville clinched the top spot in the Western division and punched their ticket to the Appalachian League Championship Game.

Both teams have an off-day Tuesday before they head into a four-game stint to end the regular season. Danville heads back home for a two-game series against the Princeton WhistlePigs (27-22), while Pulaski heads to Burlington to face the Sock Puppets (17-31-2)
