Reception set for NHRA champ Hagan
Reception for Matt Hagan will be held December 16 at Motor Mile Toyota
CHRISTIANSBURG, Va. – Christiansburg native Matt Hagan clinched a sensational 4TH NHRA Funny Car World Championship at the Camping World Series finale in Pomona, CA on November 12. Hagan’s title places him in an elite group of only four racers to have won four funny car championships in the history of the sport. Racing greats John Force (15 championships), Don Prudhomme (4), and Kenny Bernstein (4) round out the list. Hagan’s fourth title is the first for the TSR Nitro organization, owned by Indy/NASCAR champ Tony Stewart, who made the move to NHRA team ownership two seasons ago.
Hagan’s remarkable achievement will be celebrated in his hometown on December 16, 2023, with a Champion’s Celebration Reception. Fans will have the opportunity to meet Matt and see the Dodge Power Brokers Funny Car Hagan piloted in the season finale in Pomona. Hagan’s other sponsors include Johnson Horsepower Garage, American Rebel, and Rinnai, as well as Shelor Motor Mile, the Christiansburg auto dealership complex co-owned by Hagan’s father. A multitude of photos, videos, and memorabilia will be on display, including all 49 of Hagan’s Wallies and the 4 World Championship Trophies. Team owner Tony Stewart and Stewart’s wife Leah Pruett, driver of the Mopar Top Fuel dragster, will also be in attendance in what promises to be an exciting evening for race fans of all ages. The event is open to the public from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Motor Mile Toyota showroom (2230 Roanoke Street, Christiansburg).
