Royals come from behind to down Yankees after rain delay

Juan De Leon homered, but the Pulaski Yankees fell to the Burlington Royals, 6-4 in 10 innings after a lengthy rain delay on Tuesday night.

Both teams traded blows in the second inning, starting with Jose Marquez. He lined his ninth double of the season to right field to score Rhett Aplin. Marquez’ RBI was the only run charged to Yankees’ starter Alexander Vizcaino before departing due to the rain delay.

In the bottom half, the Yankees posted a three spot on the scoreboard to grab a 3-1 lead. All with two outs, Carlos Narvaez and Max Burt reached base and all scored courtesy of Juan De Leon’s fourth homer of the season, through the rain drops and beyond the left center field wall.

Play resumed at 9:50pm after a rain delay began with one out in the top of the third inning. Pulaski’s lead stood until the seventh inning when Burlington rallied to tie. Matt Morales scored Marquez on a RBI single to right field to cut his club’s deficit to one run, followed by a RBI double by Eric Cole to score Montae Bradshaw.

Nine innings were not enough, and extra innings were required as the game surpassed midnight. Burlington tallied three times in the 10th inning to grab a commanding 6-3 lead. Michael Emodi doubled in a run followed by a Brhet Bewley RBI single to open a 5-3 advantage. Marquez added his second RBI knock of the night to score Bewley and round out the Royals scoring scoring.

In the bottom half, Pulaski brought the tying run to the plate with runners on second and third base with nobody out. Ezequiel Duran received credit for a RBI groundout to cut Pulaski’s deficit to 6-4 and complete the game’s scoring.

The Pulaski Yankees rematch the Burlington Royals the tonight at Calfee Park for the middle contest of a three-game set.
