RU men’s basketball announces five additions to 2019-20 roser

RADFORD, Va. – Head Coach Mike Jones and his staff announced the addition of five new players to the Radford Men’s Basketball program for the 2019-20 season on Friday.

Chyree Walker, Dravon Mangum and Jordan Hemphill have transferred in from other institutions while Quinton Morton-Robertson and Miles Jones will join from the high school ranks.

“Overall, we are very pleased with the young men who are coming into our program this year,” said Coach Jones. “They all bring different qualities and skill sets to our team and should enhance our program in several ways. Some will be counted on to contribute right away, while others will have to sit out a year, but all should impact our team immediately.”

CHYREE WALKER
6-5 | 195 | Fairfax, Va. | Bullis School (Md.) | Transfer from Delaware

  • Appeared in 30 games while making 14 starts as a freshman for the Blue Hens
  • Averaged 3.9 points and 2.4 rebounds per game
  • Was named All-Interstate Athletic Conference during his junior and senior seasons of high school
  • Led Bullis School to a conference championship in 2017

DRAVON MANGUM
6-9 | 200 | Forward | Roxboro, N.C. | Person High School | Transfer from UNC Charlotte

  • Played in 29 games including 13 starts as a true freshman at Charlotte
  • Averaged 4.8 points and 2.6 rebounds per game while adding 15 blocks, 12 assists and 10 steals
  • Scored a season-high 12 points against Oklahoma State and College of Charleston
  • Earned All-PAC-6 Conference honors three times and scored more than 1,000 career points in high school

QUINTON MORTON-ROBERTSON
5-8 | 150 | Guard | Radford, Va. | Radford High School

  • VHSL Class 2 Boys Basketball Player of the Year
  • Led Radford to an 82-7 record over the last three seasons
  • Was a part of three district championships, four regional championships and three state titles

 

MILES JONES
6-5 | 200 | Guard/Forward | Radford, Va. | Radford High School

  • Son of Radford Highlanders head coach Mike Jones
  • VHSL Class 2 Boys Basketball First Team Selection
  • Was a part of three district championships, four regional championships and three state titles

JORDAN HEMPHILL
6-5 | 185 | Guard | Rogers, Ark. | Bentonville High School | Transfer from Central Oklahoma

  • Son of Radford University President Brian O. Hemphill
  • Averaged 7.5 points, 4.2 rebounds and 1.8 assists per game in 26 games in 2018-19
  • Averaged 8.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game in 29 games in 2017-18
  • Scored a career-high 20 points on three separate occasions

The group of six players will join an already star-studded lineup of players for the Highlanders who have reached the Big South Tournament championship game in back-to-back seasons. First Team All-Big South selection Carlik Jones leads the way as he enters his redshirt junior season and he’ll be joined by seniors Travis Fields Jr., Donald Hicks and Devonnte Holland.

Radford also gets the help of Lewis Djonkam, a redshirt junior center who transferred from VCU a year ago and had to sit out the 2018-19 season due to NCAA transfer rules.
