School board to get recommendation to follow governor’s order on masks
Pulaski County Public Schools administration will recommend to the school board at its meeting today that the school system follow Governor Youngkin’s Executive Order No. 2 which makes mask wearing by students up to their parents.
An Action Item added to the school board agenda this afternoon reads as follows:
Covid Response Protocol Amendment In Response to Governor Youngkin’s Executive Order #2
“Effective on the first day of required implementation (currently Monday,
January 24, 2022), the following change will be put into place regarding the
Covid Response Protocols for Pulaski County Public Schools:
In accordance with Governor Glenn Youngkin’s Executive Order Number
Two (2022) and Order of Public Health Emergency One, the wearing of
masks for students will be optional on school grounds during the school day
based on parent discretion. Masks will still be required on school buses in
accordance with Security Directive 1582/84-21-01B from the
Transportation Security Administration of the U.S. Department of
Homeland Security.
All quarantine guidelines from the Virginia Department of Health will continue to
be utilized for positive cases and exposure to positive cases.”
The board meets today at 5 p.m. at Pulaski County Middle School with a budget public hearing followed by its regular meeting.
