State Police working crash on I-81 in Wythe County

At 1:37 a.m. Saturday (Nov. 30), Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in Wythe County. A tractor-trailer traveling north on I-81 ran off the road struck the guardrail and overturned at the 68 mile marker. The impact of the crash caused the vehicle to catch fire. Fire crews have spent much of the morning and are still at the scene putting out recurring fires within the trailer.

The tractor-trailer was contracted by UPS, and was fully loaded with boxes and various goods.
The driver was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
The crash remains under investigation.
