Station announces Watson to take over lead role in Cougar game broadcasts for 2021 season

In this unprecedented time New River Radio Group is excited to once again broadcast Pulaski County High School Football on 107.1 FM, 107 Country PSK. We believe now more than ever in the importance of live and local high school football.

In May 2020 Pulaski County Cougar football fans mourned the loss of longtime voice of the Cougars on PSK, Dan Callahan. Dan left an indelible mark on broadcasting in the New River Valley and was, for decades, synonymous with Pulaski County football. We worked closely with Dan behind the scenes during football season and he was one-of-a-kind. PSK joins Cougar Nation in our sadness of this immense loss.

Stepping into the play by play role for 2021 is no stranger to broadcasting in the New River Valley or Pulaski County High School football on PSK. New River Radio Group and WPSK are pleased to announce legendary NRV broadcaster, former Voice of the Cougars in 2006 and 2007, and Pulaski County High School alum, Rick Watson as your Voice of the Cougars in 2021. As the long-time voice of the Radford University Highlanders in his 22nd year, and host of popular sports show Big Dawg Sports Talk, Rick bring his decades of broadcast experience to Pulaski County Cougars football.

WPSK Program Director and host of Curtis in the Morning, Curtis Crowder, calls the move a natural fit: “Dan is not an easy act to follow. When we were looking toward who would broadcast Cougar football moving forward, we wanted someone who is knowledgeable about Pulaski County football but also has professional broadcast experience. Rick was a natural choice with his background and experience in both. He and Shay Dunnigan will provide Cougar fans with compelling play-by-play coverage and analysis.”

Watson is glad to be back. “I’m excited to once again call games for my alma mater and look forward to watching what Coach Dixon builds in Dublin. There’s no doubt we will feel Dan’s presence in the booth.”

The Cougars open their season with high expectations under first-year Head Coach Mark Dixon on Monday February 22 with a trip to Roanoke to play the Cave Spring Knights. The action begins at 6:30pm with pregame followed by kickoff at 7.
