The New Habit and Larry Sigmon & Martha Spencer to perform at NRCC jamboree Saturday

The music of The New Habit along with Larry Sigmon & Martha Spencer will be featured during New River Community College’s Fiddle, Banjo and Dance Club Jamboree on Sat., Dec. 8, 2018. Music will begin at 6 p.m. in 117 Edwards Hall at NRCC in Dublin.
The New Habit was formed when members from numerous bands and a pair of brothers came together for the first time to form the band. Although they were from different bands, bluegrass brought them all together. After signing with Railroad Town Records, they released their first single “Back Of My Hand.” The band is scheduled to release their full length debut album this year. The band includes Brandon Dickerson on banjo, Josh Marlowe on guitar, Brent Dickerson on mandolin, and Aaron Blankenship on bass.
Larry Sigmon started playing music at a young age and developed a signature hard-driving rhythmic style. For 18 years, Sigmon performed with Barbara Poole at festivals, dances and other concert venues and won awards in banjo, bass and folk song competitions. Martha Spencer is a longtime member of the family group Whitetop Mountain Band. Spencer also began singing and dancing at an early age. Sigmon and Spencer have been working together since 2013 and have performed together at Ferrum College’s Blue Ridge Folklife Festival and the Carter Family Fold.
Corporate sponsors of the jamborees include Anderson Audiology, Dublin; August Jewelers & Boutique, Inc., Radford; Duncan Ford – Lincoln – Mazda, Blacksburg; Estes Auto & Truck Parts Inc., Pilot; First Community Bank, Pulaski; Gregory Seeding and Landscaping Company, Pulaski; King’s Tire Service, Pulaski; Martin’s Pharmacy, Pulaski; Pepsi Cola Bottling Co., Dublin; Pulaski Patriot, Pulaski; Shoney’s Restaurant, Dublin; and Southern Furniture Warehouse, Radford.
