Time to “Grab Summer By the Horns” at the New River Valley Fair July 22-27

It’s that time of year again!  The 2019 New River Valley Fair is celebrating its 66th year and is looking forward to another successful year!

Activities include the crowd favorite horse pull, lawn mower race, rodeo, demolition derby and wrestling.  Livestock events will be held each day featuring goats, dairy cattle, beef cattle, lambs, and hogs. Musical entertainment features Wilson Fairchild and Country Music Artist John Schneider aka “Bo Duke” from the Dukes Of Hazzard which is Celebrating 40th year Anniversary.   Cole Amusements will again provide the mid-way.

The kick off activity for the fair is the registration of exhibits for the Farris Building.  Exhibits will be accepted on Saturday, July 20 – 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. for non-perishable items and Sunday, July 21 – 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for perishable and non-perishable items. Registration will be at the main entrance to the fair grounds at the Farris Building.  Prizes include ribbons and premiums as listed per department with the Photography Professional division offering $75 for the best in show.

Judging of exhibits are divided into youth and adult divisions with categories including field crops, produce, vegetables, baked goods, horticulture, crafts, art and photography as well as many other categories.  The 2019 Premium Catalog is available online at www.nrvfair.com or by contacting the Fair office at (540-674-1548).  For guidance in exhibiting your fruits and vegetables, information may be found at http://www.oznet.ksu.eduFor more information, contact the local extension office in your county.

There will be Special Competitions in 2019 for Scarecrows, Birdhouses, and Table Setting with special prizes and premiums.  More information is in the 2019 premium book on line.  The 2019 quilt challenge is once again sponsored by Ms. Audre’s Fabric-n-Fellowship of Narrows, Virginia.  Perspective quilters may pick up the fabric at Ms. Audre’s store or by calling 540-921-2042.   Ms. Audre encourages all ages and levels of quilters to participate in the challenge “as quilting is an activity to be enjoyed by doing the sewing or viewing the craftsmanship.”
