Town Manager: Potential exists for Rosie’s Gaming Emporium to come to Pulaski
Pulaski Town Manager Todd Day this afternoon released the following…
The Town of Pulaski is pleased to inform citizens that a potential opportunity exists for a Rosie’s Gaming Emporium, owned and operated by Churchill Downs Inc., to be located within the Town of Pulaski.
At this time, the project remains in its preliminary stages and there are several important steps that must occur before it can move forward. A home store front is still not solidified and a number of locations are being looked at by Rosie’s Gaming Emporium. Obviously, we will make public the location when it is selected.
One of the key requirements is obtaining the necessary number of voter signatures required by Virginia law to place the matter on a future ballot, potentially this coming November, for public consideration. If the required signatures are obtained and all statutory requirements are met, the citizens of Pulaski will have the opportunity to decide if Rosie’s Gaming Emporium has a future home in the Town of Pulaski.
I can tell you as Town Manager, this opportunity is a game changer and I’m excited for the community due to the new business draw, and for our existing businesses and how they will absolutely benefit from a potential Rosie’s Gaming Emporium being located in town.
The Town of Pulaski remains open for business and committed to pursuing and accepting opportunities that strengthen our local economy and also improve the socio-economic footprint. Economic development projects such as this massively generate new revenues, support local businesses, create jobs, strengthen community organizations and initiatives, and help reduce the need for future increases in taxes, fees and other costs of living borne by our citizens. All these numbers will be calculated and revealed in due time.
My office appreciates the interest and engagement of our residents and looks forward to providing future updates on this exciting opportunity. Rosie’s Gaming Emporium is a subsidiary of Churchill Downs Inc., which is headquartered in Louisville, Kentucky. Churchill Downs Inc. is best known as the home of the world-famous Kentucky Derby.

I know the town is looking at all the tax money we can get from this and it sounds good but you really need to think about what comes with this I know you will never tell the people what all of this is but you need to tell the truth

Gaming Emporium is NOT a good idea. Please don’t do this.
June 26, 2026 @ 9:11 am
I believe this is a really bad idea and would do nothing to enhance our community. Gambling can lead to addiction which leads to financial ruin for families effected by it.

Are you nuts? This is gambling with age restrictions…so if it is so good for the community, then why can’t our children go in? This will denigrate the community, bring in factors that don’t elevate family life and once the standard is downgraded…anything goes. No! No! No!

This is a really bad idea for Pulaski. Have you researched the effects of gambling on a community? Are you willing to exchange some financial gain resulting in these devastating effects on our citizens and community?
Gambling can threaten health, leading to increased incidence of mental illness and suicide. It can drive poverty by diverting household spending from essential goods and services.
Gambling harms also include relationship breakdown, family violence, financial distress, stigma, income-generating crimes (theft, fraud), neglect of children, and erosion of civil institutions via corruption and corporate political activity.
Gambling is also a common way to launder money obtained through illegal activities.
Many critics don’t believe that state and local governments take responsibility for the social problems generated
by the gaming industry. Sam Skolnik, a former gambling addict and author of High Stakes: The Rising Cost of
America’s Gambling Addiction argues that although many states use some gambling revenues to treat and prevent gambling additions, this may not be enough. He says, “Essentially, [legislators are] admitting that they know they are creating a class of gamblers who become addicts. If you know what you’re doing creates problems, is this appropriate policy?”
PLEASE DON’T BRING THIS INTO OUR COMMUNITY!
June 26, 2026 @ 10:32 am
People in the community cannot afford to go and gamble and drink but this is the kind of atmosphere it will be. It will draw more addicts and people will gamble away their money instead making more homeless and causing more addicts possibly or maybe even some to relapse in a tempting environment. Pulaski is not the place for this. I don’t think the people of Pulaski agree with the Town Manager!

while you are reading this everyone needs to ask what is supposingly going in the county’s new sports plex. I heard alcohol and gaming machines. check it out and ask questions.
June 26, 2026 @ 11:35 am
We are totally against gaming! Rusty and Rebecca Whitener
June 26, 2026 @ 12:12 pm
I completely agree with all of the comments above that beg you not to do this to our town. The consequences upon the people, and especially the innocent children, will be horrific. it will add an even greater strain on our local policeman, our social services, and our population in general. Please do not bring this gambling into our town.
June 27, 2026 @ 10:22 pm
Great news! Do it! When you look at the overall condition of this town this couldn’t hurt. You have dope heads and tons of backpacking creeps all over this town now. How could this hurt. Let the voters decide.
June 28, 2026 @ 6:33 am
please do not do this to the town of Pulaski. Look up the crime that comes along with this. We do not have enough police officers to handle this. I understand you want growth but this isn’t the way! if they are trying to get people to sign to put it on the ballot can we sign to keep it off the ballot?

Get rid of the methadone clinic and they will come.
June 30, 2026 @ 3:12 pm
I agree with the last comment. Get rid of the methadone clinic and businesses will start looking at our community. We need places to shop without going to Christiansburg or Roanoke to spend our money.
