Pulaski Town Council voted Tuesday night to approve a resolution authorizing the issuance of a general obligation bond in the amount of $420,000 to purchase a ladder truck for the fire department, equipment for the truck and to cover the cost of repairs needed for the roof and gutters of the historic train station.
The largest portion of the bond – $240,000 – will be spent to purchase a used ladder truck from the Blacksburg Fire Department. The truck – a 1999 Pierce platform ladder truck – is being replaced by a new truck.
The truck coming to Pulaski has only some 8,300 miles on it.
Pulaski’s fire department hasn’t had a ladder truck since 2011. A new ladder truck costs over $1 million, making the used Blacksburg vehicle a great deal for the town.
Another $10,000 from the bond will go to complete the outfitting of the used ladder truck.
About $150,000 of the bond will go toward roof and gutter repairs at the historic train station.
The rest of the bond proceeds will go toward the cost of issuing the bond.
