For my 70 plus years Lee hwy was the road way thru the NRV. this portion of road over Drapers mountain was (remains) hazardous road. The non banked curve just before entry to Hermosa Street (north bound) was called Dead-Mans curve, in spite of signs and widening. it remains so.
My parental and High School Training for a drivers permit involved both lectures and behind the wheel exposer to obeying signs and speed limits. Virginia has yearly state inspection that catches many unsafe vehicles for repair of brakes , suspensions, and other safety items. In spite of all things taken to prevent highway fatality, It continues. We humans are slow learners. It’s not the road it’s the It’s the operator of the Vehicle.

Yes it’s our third year in the area and we have had many vehicles cross over the line and we had to react quickly in order to not be run off the road. When driving a tahoe, it doesn’t leave much room to move over when trying to miss someone who is on our side of the road.
My condolences to the families of the two motorcyclists that were killed. Some drivers seem to believe they own the road and cannot keep their vehicle in their lane especially when they are driving way over the speed limit.

One of the problems is……There is not proper warning signage on that curve in either direction.
