UPDATE: Motorcyclist in fatal Carroll County crash identified
Virginia State Police Trooper C.A. Thompson is investigating a fatal crash in Carroll County. The crash occurred May 23, 2021 at 1:45 p.m. on Route 52, approximately 2 miles south of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
A 2017 Yamaha YZF-R6 was traveling south on Route 52 when it ran off the right side of the highway and struck the guardrail. The motorcycle then crossed back across the highway and ran off the left side before going over an embankment and overturning.
The motorcyclist, Arin M. Escoto, 22, of Greensboro, N.C., was flown to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston, N.C. He succumbed to his injuries the following morning. He was wearing a helmet.
The crash remains under investigation.
