Virginia State Police Arrest Wytheville Man Following Incident at Community College

WYTHEVILLE, Va. – A man is facing multiple charges following an incident Feb. 15, 2018, that took place on the campus of Wytheville Community College. Alexander E. Dunford, 21, of Wytheville, Va., threatened a male and female with a handgun.  Dunford pointed the handgun at the couple and “dry” fired it. (Dry firing is the practice of “firing” a firearm without ammunition). Neither the male nor female was injured.

Virginia State Police Trooper P.D. Goard arrested Dunford on two felony counts of attempt to maliciously shoot an individual (Code of VA 18.2-51), two felony counts of use/attempt to use or display a firearm in a threatening manner (Code of VA 18.2-53), and one count of brandishing a firearm.

Dunford is being held without bond at the New River Valley Regional Jail until his court appearance Tuesday.

The incident remains under investigation.
