Virginia State Police, Bristol PD arrest man following barricade, fatal shooting

Virginia State PoliceBRISTOL, Va. – Virginia State Police (VSP) and the City of Bristol, Va., Police Department (BVPD) has arrested a 47-year-old man following a fatal shooting and barricade situation which occurred early Sunday (Aug. 23, 2026) morning in the City of Bristol.

 

The incident began at approximately 2:40 a.m. Sunday when BVPD Officers were called to a hotel along Salem Drive for a report of a man with a firearm.  As BVPD responded to the scene, they exchanged gunfire with the suspect, later identified as Antonio Megginson, 47. Neither Megginson nor any officers were struck by the gunfire.

 

Following the exchange of gunfire, additional resources responded to the scene, including Virginia State Police, which took over as the lead agency.

 

Law enforcement was eventually able to take Megginson into custody.  During the incident, two deceased females were located at the scene, one in the parking lot and one in a hotel room.  They have been identified as Brenda Tackett, 54, of Bristol, Va., and Andrea Mallory, 35, of Bristol, Va.
