Laura Walters will again preside as chairman over the Pulaski County Board of Supervisors in 2026.

For Walters, it is her fifth consecutive one-year term in the post.

Walters was elected Monday evening by acclamation by the other four board members during the board’s annual re-organizational meeting held in Fairlawn at the Pulaski County Innovation Center.

Walters, supervisor from the Ingles District, was first selected by the board in January 2022. She was selected as former chairman Joe Guthrie’s replacement after he accepted a position in Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s cabinet.

Her selection in 2022 marked the first time a woman has served as chairman of the board in Pulaski County.

Draper Supervisor Dirk Compton was also selected for a fifth term as vice chairman.

Walters expressed appreciation to the other board members for placing their confidence in her to be chairman again, and noted her excitement over what she termed the “huge” year ahead for Pulaski County.

Also Monday, Ashley Edmonds was re-appointed Clerk of the board. Megan Byrd was again selected as Deputy Clerk, and County Attorney Tim Kirtner was again selected as Parliamentarian.
