Wytheville resident arrested on charges of possession and distribution of child exploitation material

On September 28, 2020, The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office executed a Search Warrant at a residence located on North 8th Street in the Town of Wytheville, about the possession of and distribution of child exploitation material.

The suspect was located inside the residence and was identified as 72-year-old William Walters.  Mr. Walter’s was arrested and charged with possessing and distributing child exploitation material.  Mr. Walter’s admitted to investigators that he currently possessed and had distributed several images of child pornography to others.  Mr. Walters was held without bail and transferred over to the New River Valley Regional Jail.

The Wythe County Sheriff’s Office aggressively pursues crimes against children. We are proud to partner with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, Internet Crimes Against Children Division, and would like to thank them for assisting with this on-going Investigation.  Further charges are expected, pending a digital forensics examination on items collected from Mr. Walter’s residence.
