Yankees ride nine-run inning to win over Cards

Everson Pereira capped off a season-high, nine-run inning with a three-run homer in the sixth frame en route to a Pulaski Yankees’ 12-6 win over the Johnson City Cardinals on Wednesday night.

Following a 1:31 rain delay prior to the originally scheduled first pitch, the Cardinals jumped out to a 4-0 lead before Pulaski’s eventual rally. Leandro Cedeno opened the scoring by turning around a fast ball into a deep drive to left field over the outfield wall for his second homer in as many nights. Johnson City tacked on a three-spot in the fourth frame after Cedeno doubled home Donivan Williams, followed by a RBI single by Luis Flores and a RBI single by Moises Castillo.

Into the sixth frame, the Yankees put forth a big inning thanks a Cardinals defensive miscue and a big swing by Everson Pereira. Nelson Gomez put Pulaski on the board with a RBI double to center field to score Ezequiel Duran. Gomez later scored on a Carlos Narvaez RBI single and Robert Javier walked with the bases loaded to suddenly cut the Yankees’ deficit to one.

Next at bat, Oswald Peraza chopped a grounder to the right side on what should have been a routine play for second baseman Donivan Williams. But a wide throw scored two runs to suddenly put the Yankees ahead 5-4 and extend the inning.

Next, Duran singled to right field to score Javier, followed by a three-run bomb to deep center field by Everson Pereira to round out a nine-run inning. The nine-run frame is the most scored in a single inning by the Pulaski Yankees this season, previously eight runs scored on June 24 against the Greeneville Reds, which was capped by an Ezequiel Duran grand slam.

Johnson City answered with a couple runs in the seventh courtesy of a two-run double by Dariel Gomez to make it 9-6, but Pulaski answered with three more runs in the bottom half. Jordan Scott, Javier and Duran all drove in a run with RBI singles to round out an eventful 12-6 final.
