Yankees see 8-game win streak end, 4-0 in Danville

Danville, Va – The Pulaski Yankees eight game win streak came to an end on Friday night in Danville as the Braves topped the Yankees 4-0.

The Yankees scorching hot offense came to a screeching halt on Friday night as the Braves pitching staff held Pulaski to a season-low two hits. Danville had a no hitter going into the seventh inning until Nelson B. Alvarez hit a single to right field to break up the no-hitter that two Braves pitchers were working on.

Leonardo Pestana started the game for Pulaski and appeared to have his best stuff working early as he struck out four of the first eight batters he faced. Pestana looked to be cruising and in control until the bottom of the third inning. After getting the lead off batter to ground out, Pestana walked the next batter who then stole second. Danville added a single right after that to give the Braves runners on the corners. After Pulaski allowed another stolen base the Braves had two runners in scoring position and then Danville’s right fielder hit a three-run home run to left field. Pestana walked the very next batter and Yankees manager Luis Dorante had seen enough and decided to call on his bullpen after 2.1 innings from his starter.

Sean Boyle came in to replace Pestana and he earned two quick outs to end the third inning. Boyle pitched well in relief and gave the Yankees 2.2 innings where he only allowed two hits while giving up one more run and earned three strikeouts.

The Yankees offense that had been lights out all season long just didn’t show up tonight. It was the first time all season long that the team failed to score a run. They came into the night leading the Appalachian League in runs (171) and extra base hits (96) and failed to produce either in tonight’s game.

After this quick three game road trip, the Yankees will return home Saturday night as they begin a three game series against the Burlington Royals. It’ll be the first matchup of the two teams at Calfee Park this season. Pulaski will be giving away a mini replica Yankees trolley to the first 500 fans in attendance. The gates will open at 4:00 p.m. and first pitch is scheduled for 6:30. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit www.pulaskiyankees.net or call the front office at 540-980-1070
