Yankees walk off over Twins, even series

The Pulaski Yankees scored the game’s one and only run in the bottom of the 9th inning to walk off over the Elizabethton Twins, 1-0. Max Burt led off the ninth inning with a double, raced to third base on a wild pitch, and scored the winning run after the ensuing throw to third base went into left field.

Luis Gil started the night and threw five shutout innings before being replaced by Wellington Diaz, who went the remainder of the game and earned the win. Gil allowed two hits, one walk and seven strikeouts, while Diaz allowed four hits, no walks and four strikeouts in four innings. The shutout win was Pulaski’s pitching staff’s third of the season. The victory was the Yankees’ first in walk off fashion this season and pulled their record to 19-25 on the season.

The Yankees finish their six-game homestand tomorrow with the series finale against the Elizabethton Twins. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Calfee Park.
