Obituary for Sarah “Tip” Black Quillen

     Sarah “Tip” Black Quillen of 28 Dora Highway, Pulaski, Va. peacefully entered into Heaven Wednesday afternoon at home.  She was born November 8, 1925, a daughter of the late Kittie Meredith Black and Elbert G. Black.  Preceded in death by her loving husband, Jack Vanover Quillen and son, Dennis Scott Quillen; sisters Shirley Underwood and Isabel Akers, and brother Douglas “Dee” Black, she was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church of Pulaski.  Surviving are her daughters Rita Quillen Smith and her husband Danny of Naples, Fla.,, and Shirley Ann Maiden of Knoxville, Tenn.  Grandchildren Michael Hodges, Jeffrey Smith, Chad Smith and Jackie Thompson, and six great-grandchildren.  Also surviving are sister Iva Jewell Shufflebarger and brothers Elbert G. Black Jr. and Charles “Zack” Black.  Tip was known in the community for her great cooking, especially for her cakes, pies and fudge.  She was passionate, caring and loved by many, especially by her many nieces, nephews and dear friends.  Viewing will be at Seagles Funeral Home on Friday, Sept. 14th between 6 and 8pm.  Funeral will take place Saturday, Sept. 15th. at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with The Reverend Will Shelton officiating.  Graveside committal will be at 2:00 p.m. at the Felts Memorial Cemetery in Galax.  Flowers can be sent to the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Felt’s Cemetery in Galax, Va.
