Adaire Theatre wrapping up 2019 season with ‘Home for the Holidays’

It’s been quite a busy year for Adaire Theatre and in these past few weeks leading up to Christmas, the company has already received more gifts than they could have imagined.

Adaire Theatre recently received the Community Impact Award from the Pulaski County Chamber of Commerce. It’s an honor Kendall Payne, founder of Adaire Theatre, said hits home to the heart of Adaire Theatre.

“Our goal as a non-profit is always community first. If we’re just supplying entertainment, but not giving back, then we’re doing a real disservice to our hometown. Also, to be chosen for this award from a group of peers who recognize the heart behind what we do feels really good,” Payne said.

Adaire Theatre has been bringing entertainment to the New River Valley since 2012. The company started out by putting on one summer musical, and now the actors perform seven shows each season. Payne says it’s been a process getting to where they are today, but the journey has been well worth it.

On Giving Tuesday Adaire Theatre exceeded their fundraising goal of $1,000. The money will be used to support their $25,000 fundraising goal for new microphones and a touring production of “Quiet Courage: The Pursuit of Equal Education” in the spring.

“The way we’ve grown and the support we’re receiving has been tremendous. What we’re doing is more than just performing a show on stage, but breathing new life into a community that many thought was dying. We’re bringing families together, watching kids break out of their shells in our theatre classes, and building something that’s bringing people to our hometown,” Payne said.

While Adaire Theatre has received many gifts this year, the company is ready to give you the gift of what they do best – entertainment. They’re gearing up to perform their last show of the season. It’s called “Home for the Holidays.” The show got such a great response last year, that they decided to bring it back.

“We’re making ‘Home for the Holidays’ a new Christmas tradition,” said Payne.

The show is a musical revue. The cast will sing popular Christmas favorites intermingled with funny skits and dance numbers. Payne said the show is for people of all ages; and while there are many parts that will make you laugh, there’s also moments that will make you pause and remember the reason for the season.

“There are so many people who have said they would love to come see a show, but haven’t had the chance. Well, now’s your chance! Families are coming into town to spend time together. Instead of going to see a movie, how about you come downtown and check out the show.” Payne said.

Adaire Theatre will perform “Home for the Holidays” December 19-22. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday performances are at 7 p.m. There’s also a matinee performance at 2 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased at the door; however, because seating is limited, Adaire Theatre is encouraging people to buy tickets online to secure their seat.
