After 66 years of serving automotive customers in Radford at Harvey’s GM Chevrolet Buick automotive dealership, brothers George Harvey, Jr. and Brad Harvey have decided to retire.

Harvey Chevrolet logoHarvey’s GM Chevrolet Buick was founded by their father, George M. Harvey, Sr. in 1959 and is located at 1500 Tyler Avenue.  The dealership has provided Radford and the surrounding areas with new and used cars sales, repair and body shop services, as well as parts.

“My brother Brad and I would like to thank all the mighty fine people in the community and our employees for their support over the last sixty-six years,” said George Jr.  “Harvey’s has been family owned and operated ever since, and we will continue through the month of January 2026.  In February, Shelor Motor Mile will take over operations.”

The brothers cite reaching retirement age and the desire to spend more time with family as deciding factors in their retirement decision.

When the brothers decided to sell, they discovered there was a lot of interest in the dealership that had been in operation so many years.

“I’ve known the Shelors and David Hagan for most of my life.  When we learned of their interest in operating the dealership and keeping the people, we felt like it was the best deal for us and our employees,” stated George, Jr.

George M. Harvey, Sr.   –  Founder of Harvey’s GM Chevrolet Buick Automotive Dealership in Radford.  Beginning in February, 2026, the 66-year-old family owned and operated dealership will transfer ownership to Shelor Motor Mile.

In 1981, Hagan went to work for Larry Shelor’s father at Shelor Motor Mile in Christiansburg.  The business grew and in 1995 Hagan and Larry Shelor became partners and bought the business from Larry’s father.  The acquisition of Harvey’s GM Chevrolet and Buick by Hagan is another of his many successful business enterprises.

The only family members leaving the Harvey’s dealership are Brad and George, Jr. and George’s wife, Lisa who is the title clerk for the organization.  “When Lisa learned we were planning on retiring, she decided she wasn’t going to continue working either, once she trained a replacement.  ‘I’m going home with you,’ she joked.”

George Jr. and Lisa have seven children and eight grand-children.  Brad and his wife have four children.  Both families plan to visit and spend more time with family members during retirement.

“I feel really lucky to have worked with all these mighty fine people in the community and with our employees. God has blessed this dealership for 66 years and I will miss my interaction with our customers and employees, but we are entering a different chapter in life.  I’ve had a good run, but when I asked my wife when was the last time I took five-days off, she answered six years ago for medical reasons,” said George Jr.

“We hope that our customers and community will continue to support the Shelor Motor Mile group and our employees as you have supported us in the past,” stated George, Jr. regarding the transition.
