March easily wins GOP nomination in 7th District

Marie March will carry the Republican banner in November’s election for the 7th House District seat being vacated by Nick Rush.

March easily defeated her two opponents, Sherri Blevins and Lowell Bowman, during a “firehouse primary” Saturday.

March took 54 percent of the vote with 1,387, followed by Blevins at 26 percent with 660 votes, and Bowman won 20 percent with 514 votes.

March won in both Pulaski and Floyd counties and had a strong showing in Montgomery County to carry the day.

Pulaski County went March, 528 votes; Blevins, 246, and Bowman, 189.

Floyd County went March, 554; Blevins, 38, and Bowman, 147.

Montgomery County went Blevins, 376; March, 305, and Bowman, 178.

A total of 2,561 votes were cast in the primary.

March now moves on to the Nov. 2 General Election and will take on the winner of the Democratic Party’s 7th District primary to be held June 8. Currently, Derek Kitts and Tara Orlando are the only announced candidates on the Democratic side.
