Primary turnout about 6 percent in Pulaski County as of 1:30 p.m.

Today’s Democratic Primary – in Pulaski County at least – isn’t bringing voters out in droves.

According to Kathy Webb, Director of Elections and General Registrar for Pulaski County, only about 6 percent of the 22,156 registered voters in the county – 1,300 people – had voted as of 1:30 this afternoon.

The primary in Virginia is one of the 14 that make up “Super Tuesday.” Presidential preference primaries are also being held in Vermont, Utah, Texas, Tennessee, Oklahoma, North Carolina, Minnesota, Massachusetts, Maine, Colorado, California, Arkansas and Alabama and the American Territory of American Samoa.

In Virginia, the primary here is an “open” primary. Since voters in Virginia do not register to vote by party, everyone who is registered can vote.

Polls remain open until 7 p.m. Remember to bring your photo ID. If you have questions, call the Registrar’s Office at 540-980-2111.
